Hmm - what combination could I do...

Here are some fun, non-perishable combinations for unique displays for special occasion centerpieces, gifts or everyday decor:
• No. 2 pencils bound with multiple pink rubber bands; creates a fun teacher’s gift
• Colorful crayons tied with shoelaces
• Striped drinking straws tied with licorice rope
• Candy canes wrapped with metallic garland; great for holiday décor
• Old fashioned penny candy or pixie sticks tied with a gathered length of colorful cellophane; for a birthday arrangement
• Cinnamon sticks and a tea-stained or gingham strip of cloth
• Bread sticks and layers of baker's twine wound around
• Straight cut tree twigs and fresh green vine
• Newspaper sections rolled around a skewer to create tight straws, lined up and tied with jute twine
• Similar to newspaper straws, roll layers of sewing pattern tissue into straws and tie to vase with a vintage cloth measuring tape

Your vessel can be a simple glass vase, drinking glass, tin can or any other cylindrical straight-sided container that will hold water and flowers.

The embellishment pieces can be most any vertical item that does not perish quickly. I like to purchase in quantity at minimal cost. It is best if those items are slightly taller than the vase you’re using or can be trimmed to size.
Follow these easy steps to make a beautiful centerpiece:
1. Place the vase on a saucer or surface that can be moved along with your arrangement from surface to surface without losing your display pieces.
2. Attach a large rubber band, such as those found on your market produce, around your vessel at the center.
3. Begin placing similar items behind the rubber band which will keep them in place, adding individually until the inner container is completely covered.
4. Hide the rubber band with ribbon or similar item wide enough to cover it.
5. Arrange flowers or foliage inside the vase, and display!
